After I read Paul Levinson’s book, New New Media, there is a question comes to my mind. What is new media? Now, we thought newspapers, magazines, and radio are old media. And we call Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter are new media. However, will those websites still be called new media after ten years later or one hundred yeas later?

According to traffic analysis firm Compete, Facebook is now the top source of traffic for major news and entertainment portals!!! What does it mean? It means Facebook is more popular than Google, Yahoo and MSN now. There are more and more people rely on Facebook and click other websites from Facebook, and not Yahoo or Google anymore. Facebook changes our media a lot. It affects most of main websites, and it forces other websites have to follow and do some changes. Therefore, Google has a new tool --- Google Buzz. In short, the function of Google Buzz is very similar the function of Faceebook --- feed. You can see what your friend did, shared, and said on Facebook.

However, why does Google has to do this? The reason is very simple, it could not be eliminated. We all know now technology is very strong and changes very fast. Google knows Facebook is a tendency, and if Google want to survive, it should change and creative. That is why technology always surprises people. We can not imagine what new media is after years. But there is one thing for sure, the new media must be creative and powerful than nowadays.
